Mirrors, Blind Zones and Vulnerable Users
Build a disciplined observation routine around a large vehicle.
Know what mirrors cannot show
Large vehicles can hide entire cars, motorcycles or pedestrians. Correct mirror adjustment reduces but does not eliminate blind zones.
Check before every movement
Scan mirrors before braking, changing lane or turning. Where practical, verify the blind area directly and never assume another road user has moved away.
Protect vulnerable users
Slow down near cyclists and pedestrians. Avoid squeezing past them and allow for unexpected movement.
