Systematic Pre-Trip Inspection

Use a fixed sequence

A repeatable walk-around prevents important items from being forgotten. Start at the cab and move around the vehicle in the same direction every time.

Check safety-critical systems

Inspect tyres and wheel fasteners, lights and reflectors, mirrors, fluid leaks, doors, emergency equipment and brake warnings. Confirm that the load or passenger area is secure.

Act on defects

Record defects and remove the vehicle from service when a safety-critical problem exists. Never rely on hope that a fault will disappear during the journey.
