Speed, Space and Following Distance
Choose a speed that leaves enough time and space to respond.
Speed must match conditions
Use the posted limit as a maximum, not a target. Reduce speed when visibility, grip, traffic flow or road layout makes the normal limit unsafe.
Protect your stopping space
Keep a clear time gap from the vehicle ahead. Increase it in rain, at night, behind large vehicles or whenever your view is restricted.
Plan early
Scan far ahead and ease off the accelerator early. Smooth decisions reduce rear-end risk and make your actions easier for other road users to understand.
